Durres Region has a population of over 400 thousand inhabitants and it is extended on a surface of 740 km2. It creates an operation space for nearly 10.000 private enterprises traditionally going around 3T-Trade, Transport, Tourism. Is considerable even the contribution of urban, trade, industrial and tourist constructions, industrial and agro-alimentary production, the fishery with the biggest fleet in the country and other services as well. Durres Region has a favorable business climate for anyone and gives over 10% of all country’s GDP.

The Region comprehends two districts, Durres and Kruja. Their structures contain six municipalities and ten communes. All are represented in Durres Regional Council,  an institution  playing the role of a local coordinative government.

Durres is included in the country’s priority zones for the development of the tourism due to its geographic position and its natural, archaeological and historical resources. Combination of sea and sun tourism with the cultural tourism open prospects for tourism development and economy through the expansion of it during all year. However, traditional tourism development is not enough for an effective sustainable development of the district in perspective.
